Sarman tells the city priest about his dream, the strange tune he hears in his mind and the seal his Durjan kaka had given him. He visits the priest in the temple next and worships the Sindhu Ma goddess statue.
Chaani falls in love with Sarman now while her father thanks Sarman. He suddenly sees horses, brought by foreign traders, rushing towards a frightened Chaani and heroically saves her. With Lotha and Hojo, Sarman uses his seal to gain entry. The following day, Sarman wants to visit Chaani but she lives in the guarded Upper City. As diverse traders and performers sing and dance, Sarman also joins Chaani, whom Munja gazes at adoringly, in the celebrations. That evening, the city enjoys its natya sangeet where Sarman sees Chaani. Maham wins the vote to raise taxes and prevents Kisan Pradhan from leaving the senate, murdering him and his group with his son, Munja. He is vociferously opposed by Kisan Pradhan who says Harappa banished Maham for smuggling and since then, he has only used Mohenjo Daro for greed and revenge. Meanwhile, in Mohenjo Daro's senate, pradhan Maham is saying to bring more development to the city and harm his enemy Harappa, taxes will have to be raised. Chaani sports a crown of feathers and shells and Sarman falls instantly in love with her as she roams about having fun with her friend Junu, playing tricks on molesters and pretending she knows magic that can turn people into frogs. Sarman is not happy and wants to leave Mohenjo Daro - but he suddenly sees Chaani (Pooja), its head priest's daughter and the city's lucky mascot. Sarman is outraged and tells Munja off - but Lotha convinces Sarman to calm down and accept lower terms of trade.
Sarman suddenly sees Munja (Arunoday), son of Mohenjo Daro's chief pradhan Maham (Kabir), behaving arrogantly and telling villagers complaining of poverty to send their female relatives to him. Trade commences but a trader tells Sarman it is not going well since areas surrounding Mohenjo Daro are not flourishing due to a dam built on the river Sindhu which has dried up progress. The villagers set up a stall in the Lower City which has a bazaar buzzing with traders from distant and close shores. In the trade registry office, Sarman asks an official where exactly the taxes from trade go - but gets no answer. Sarman gives Jagira his own shawl, a gesture noticed by Lotha, a city guard.

Sarman and Hojo are thrilled by their first glimpses of Mohenjo Daro. Sarman persuades Hojo to run away to Mohenjo Daro with him but they are caught and Sarman's uncle allows him to go, giving him a seal with a bull, telling him to use it only in a life and death situation. Sarman wants to go to the city state of Mohenjo Daro to trade indigo which his family grows but his uncle is reluctant to permit him, saying it's a place of vice and greed. In the morning, he hears his aunt humming the same strange tune - but she dismisses his questions when he asks her about it. At night, Sarman keeps dreaming of a mysterious tune, a strange city, a one-horned unicorn-like creature. His uncle Durjan (Nitish) is proud of Sarman but his aunt is worried by why Sarman must always perform heroic tasks for others. Sarman overpowers and kills the crocodile and is taken to Amri triumphantly by Hojo, his friend, and others.
